Welcome to the first ever AP® Institute of the Cascades. I am excited to lead the AP Environmental Science workshop and look forward to helping you both new and experienced APES teachers increase their success with the course. My goal is for teachers to enhance the quality of their APES program through the use of inquiry labs and data analysis. We will look at strategies to improve test scores while motivating an environmentally literate student population. We will run many of the lab activities in their entirety so that you can get comfortable with the techniques, strategies and data analysis.
I have been teaching AP Environmental Science in Marshfield, Wisconsin for 15 years, in addition to chemistry, biochemistry and science research. I have served as an AP Reader, Table Leader, and Test Development Committee member. This is my 4th year as a college board consultant. I am passionate about environmental science education and believe I have inspired many young people to pursue careers in the field or simply become more environmentally aware citizens. I teach students with vast differences in their science background and ability levels and have seen great success with all groups. My daughters and I love to travel together and I also enjoy many outdoor activities-biking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter!
To minimize the amount of paper and copy resources I will only photocopy material essential to our lab work and practice FRQ scoring; I will provide all other resources electronically so a lap top is required. Plan on dressing for some field work that will include water testing, air monitoring, soil analysis and biodiversity measurements. I look forward to hearing from you with any questions you might have before the institute.
