Chemistry participants should be prepared for an intensive overview of the Advanced Placement Chemistry course. Particular attention will be paid to laboratory work, the structure and content of the AP® course including the Six Big Ideas and the Science Practices, the AP examination, and a number of key curricular areas. Discussions will include issues which are of concern to AP teachers such as timetable variations, course outlines, resources including simulations, and the development of a syllabus for the College Board’s Course Audit. How the AP test was graded and the standards used for scoring will be reviewed. Curricular areas unique to AP Chemistry will be linked to a large variety of previous examination questions. A series of different laboratory activities will be performed and discussed. The institute will use an inquiry-based approach.
